Lavender Barn

A hidden retreat

The Lavender Barn is the spa at The Inn at Mattei's Tavern, built as a hidden retreat at the edge of the property: antiqued wood, stone, and natural linen, with an outdoor porch of soaking tubs, rainfall showers, a cedar sauna, and a eucalyptus steam room.

About a year after we completed the resort's guest rooms, Ownership asked us back for more.

The structure was already standing when we arrived, and from there we took on what the building asked for: framing, finish carpentry, electrical, lighting, millwork, stonework, paint, and the custom finishes. We worked alongside the other trades carrying the rest, with the same approach we brought to the guest rooms and the same willingness to do whatever it took to get it done right.

The Challenge

A spa asks more of finish work than almost any other building.

A guest passes through a hotel room. In a spa they lie still for ninety minutes and study the ceiling, and every surface is seen at close range, in low light, often wet. There is nowhere for a joint to hide and nothing that reads as merely adequate.

The Lavender Barn opened as the property's wellness sanctuary. We brought the same care we gave all sixty-seven guest rooms at the Inn at Mattei's Tavern to every beam, stone, and surface we touched.

Your home could be next.
